What is a Science Project?
A science project is an investigation
using the scientific method to discover the answer to a scientific
problem.
Does it have to be "Scientific Method"?
Recognizing that personal and cultural
beliefs influence both our perceptions and our interpretations of
natural phenomena, we use standard procedures and criteria (known as
scientific method) to minimize the influence of bias or prejudice in our
research.
What is "Scientific Method"?
Scientific method is a set of
techniques for investigating phenomena, acquiring new knowledge, or
correcting and integrating previous knowledge. The purpose of scientific
method is discovering facts while avoiding lies and delusion.
In its most basic form, the scientific method can consist of the
following tasks:
- Thinking of a question or
Identifying a Problem .
Answering the question or finding a solution
for the problem will be the purpose of your project.
- Gathering existing information
about the subject.
Information you gather are also known as
Background Information.
- Identifying
Variables that may affect the experiment
or observation
- Forming a hypothesis
A hypothesis is either a suggested explanation
for a phenomenon or a reasoned proposal suggesting a possible answer
to the question, a possible solution to the problem or a possible
result for your experiment or observation. The scientific method
requires that a hypothesis must be testable. Scientists generally
base such hypotheses on previous observations or knowledge..
- Designing and Performing
Experiments or making observations
- Collecting and
Analyzing Data
- Formulating Conclusions about the
Hypothesis
