Photochemical Bromination of Hydrocarbons

Introduction:
Fluorine, Chlorine, Bromine and Iodine are strong oxidizers from the Halogen group of elements. These elements can react with many organic chemicals specially some household organic chemicals that we can use for our research. The same way that the reaction of oxygen with other chemicals is called oxidation, reaction of halogens with chemicals have names such as Bromination, Chlorination, etc.

 Project description:
The purpose of this project is to study the reaction of Bromination to see if this is a photochemical reaction or if light can accelerate or somehow affect such reactions. For the purpose of this experiment you will make free (elemental) bromine.
