Heat Content of Snack Foods

Introduction:
Did you ever wonder how scientists know how much energy is in the foods we eat?  When you look at the package that food comes in, it tells you how much energy it contains.  How do they know that?

Snack food contain chemical energy in the form of oils, sugars, starch and some other hydrocarbons. In our body such energy will be used to keep us warm and perform other biological functions.

 Project description:
In this project you will make a simple calorimeter and measure the amount of heat energy produced by each snack food. Report the results in the form of a table and compare the heat energy of your samples. Compare your results with the food calorie written on the food label.
